I'm trying something new....

I was browsing the web for blogs and things this weekend and I came across a few blogs that a Monday post where they listed 5 things that they were blessed with that week and another post with a "picture of the week". I thought that sounded like fun, so I think I'm gonna combine the two and do both on Monday's. Maybe by doing this, I can share a bit of my life that does not revolve around crafts and you can get to know me a bit better. So here we go....
The Picture of the WeekI took this photo last week after my son finished playing in the dirt. He was so sweaty and dirty that the dirt just ran down his forehead.
Things that make me feel Blessed...
1. My son has finally given in and decided that brushing his teeth is cool.
2. I've finally found the motivation to diet again.
3. My husband is going to college again and this time he is actually doing the homework.
4. The temperature is finally starting to feel like fall.
5. Tomorrow is September the 1st, fall is just around the corner!

My First Pillowcase Dress

Ok , so I just had to show off! This is the first sewing project that I have ever done where I wasn't afraid to show off the results. I am NOT a sewing person. I am dying to learn all there is not know though. My mother is good at it and my grandmother was fabulous, but I just never learned how. So what better time than the present? I have been seeing these adorable dresses everywhere lately and I decided that they looked simple enough for me. I know what you're thinking....wait a minute, You don't even have a little girl! I know I know! I'm hoping that I will someday, but in the meantime who says I can't make fab clothes for someone else's precious little one. So this first one is for my son's little "girlfriend", Lilly. I'm sure her mom will love it. In the photo the dress appears to be red and white, but it is acutally a reddish pink color. When you hold it up against red, it looks pink and vice versa. Well if you're wondering how I made this, I found this amazing tutorial online, complete with step by step pics of how to do it. So easy to follow! Go here to see.

Young Love....& and Funny Story

Here is a LO I did for the Scrapsketch challenge. I have really been in the mood to scrap lately. Expecially since i've discovered the joy of scraping using sketches. I tend to run out of LO ideas on my own, so these online sketches give me a little boost in creativity. I haven't scrapped any really old pictures lately, so when I ran across these, I just had to do it. These two pictures were taken in June 2000. It was 9 years ago. My husband and I were dating then. We were just kids. Wow. Amazing how time flies. There is actually a funny story behind the photo of us sitting on the bench. We were at a "Bennett Family Reunion". My husband's last name was Bennett. But it was a reunion of my family members, not his. haha. My grandmother's maiden name was Bennett. But my name was Tucker at the time. So when I took him to this reunion of mine, he was wearing an old baseball tshirt with "Bennett" on the back of it. We tried to stay seated on this bench so no one would see the name and then ask how he was related to the family. So instead we sat there watching everyone arrive to see if he recognized any of them (b/c he could be related to them). Well wouldn't ya know it...a lady walked by and he's like "oh crap" I know her. He wasn't sure how, but he just knew she was a relative of his (he's not good with names). So to make a long story short, we were sweating it out, worried if we'd have to break up after finding out that we were related, but turns out that we were only linked by this one lady who was only related to me through marriage (no blood kin). haha. We laugh about that story everytime we see this photo. So the small circle caption on the page says: "We were thinking...I hope we're not related...this could get really weird".

Random thoughts from people our age...

-I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

-More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tellmy own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

-Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

-Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

-I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

-Is it just me, or are 80% of the people in the "people you may know "feature on Facebook people that I do know, but I deliberately choose not to be friends with?

-Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we allknow how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

-Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what was going on when I first saw it.

-I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

-How are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

-I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

-The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

-Was learning cursive really necessary?

- Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".

- I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

- Answering the same letter three times or more in a row on a Scantron test is absolutely petrifying.

- Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart",all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart".

- How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

- I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!

- Every time I have to spell a word over the phone using 'as in' examples, I will undoubtedly draw a blank and sound like a complete idiot. Today I had to spell my boss's last name to an attorney and said "Yes that's G as in...(10 second lapse)..ummm...Goonies"

- While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart.

- MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood..

- Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.-Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

-I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

-Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that theirprofile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!

- Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier & sluttier every year?

-If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.

-Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....

-You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

-Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

-There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

-I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

-I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren't watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'

-I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello?) but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

- I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste..

-Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...

-I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

-Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.-Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

-My 4-year old son asked me in the car the other day "Dad what would happen if you ran over a ninja?" How do I respond to that?

-I wonder if cops ever get angry at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.

-The other night I ordered takeout, and when I looked in the bag, saw they had included four sets of plastic silverware. In other words, someone at the restaurant packed my order, took a second to think about it, and then estimated that there must be at least four people eating to require such a large amount of food. Too bad I was eating by myself. There's nothing like being made to feel like a fatso before dinner.

Here is a LO I did using a sketch from Crafting by Rowena. I have been dying to do some scrapping of Christmas photos ever since I bought this vintage Christmas paper. Ijust love it! Too bad you can't see a whole lot of it on this page though. :(

Final Week of Digi Freebie Search + Freebie Thursday!

It's the final week of the digi freebie search with the Lindsay's Stamp Stuff DT. As always, Lindsay has designed a special stamp for one of us on the design team. On Thursdays, one lucky DT member will have her special stamp available to download free for a whole week. I'm sad to see it ending, we (the DT) have had so much fun doing this and sharing it all with you. Thank you so much for participating!

This week I did a LO of my son hunting easter eggs this year. I know Easter was a while back, I'm a little behind on my scrapping. haha. I used Lindsay's Swallowtail butterfly stamp, and a couple of her rabbit stamps. Once again, they are only $1.00 in her store!

The sketch I used was from Crafts by Rowena.

For this week's freebie, I have a Frankenstein mask for those of you who have children, grandchildren or teach school. This would be really fun for them to play with. I hope it comes in handy for you. If so, please take a picture of your child wearing it, I'd love to see it!

I guess I'm on a Halloween kick, because I also found these two creepy images for ya! I think that spider will look great with the web frame from yesterday!

Sketch #34

Here is a LO that I did using this week's sketch at 52 sketches, 52 weeks. I forgot to include the journaling portion of the sketch until it was too late. oopsy. Oh well. This is my little man about a year or so ago when he was only 18 months. He'll be 3 in October. My, how the time flies!
The cute little bunny is a svg file from Treasure Box Designs. They sell these in sets and are so easy to assemble! They give away freebies on their blog every Tuesday, so check 'em out!
